- Pick your species. Cherry shrimp (Neocaridina) tolerate tap water. Crystal shrimp (Caridina) usually need RO water and active substrate.
- Choose a gentle filter. A sponge filter is the usual shrimp-safe pick. Compare filters
- Keep it quiet. Match an air pump to your tank size and room. See quiet pumps
- Cycle before shrimp. Wait until ammonia and nitrite read 0 within 24 hours of dosing.
How we work: Shrimp Tank Hub publishes research-based guides. We don't run a test lab or claim hands-on testing. We compare published specifications, manufacturer documentation and recurring owner feedback, and we cite our sources. Read our methodology
